Privacy Policy

Effective 2026-06-16.

LawPassport is North Carolina's tenant accountability platform, operated by Hall & Dixon, PLLC. This policy explains what information we collect when you use LawPassport, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We try to keep this readable. If anything here is unclear, email us at hello@lawpassport.com.

1. What we collect

Depending on how you use LawPassport, we collect:

  • Contact and identity details — your name, email address, and phone number.
  • The situation you describe — the facts of your dispute, your landlord's and property's details, dates, the remedy you want, and anything else you tell us during intake or in a chat.
  • Evidence you upload — leases, photos, screenshots of messages, receipts, prior letters, and similar documents you choose to share.
  • Payment information — handled by our payment processor. We do not store full card numbers; we receive confirmation of payment and limited transaction details.
  • Account and usage data — if you create a free account, your saved profile, watch lists, and ratings; and basic technical data such as device and browser information, IP address, and pages viewed.

2. How we use it

We use your information to:

  • Prepare and send your demand letter and provide the services you request.
  • Connect you with a licensed North Carolina attorney and let them review your matter.
  • Process payments and send service updates, receipts, and case status notifications.
  • Operate and improve the platform, including the North Carolina landlord database.
  • Detect and prevent fraud and abuse, and meet our legal and professional obligations.

Complaints that appear in the public landlord database are summarized and stripped of personal details before publication. We do not publish your name, contact information, or uploaded evidence on public profile pages.

3. Processors and service providers we use

We share information with a small set of vendors who help us run the service. They process data on our behalf and only as needed to provide their function:

  • Supabase — secure database and file storage for your records and evidence.
  • Stripe — payment processing.
  • Resend — transactional and attorney email delivery.
  • GoHighLevel — messaging and follow-up communications (email and SMS).
  • Anthropic — AI assistance for drafting and classification. AI assists with preparation; a licensed attorney independently reviews any demand before it is sent.

We do not sell your personal information, and we never accept payment from landlords to alter, suppress, or hide complaints.

4. Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used so we can improve it. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect how parts of the site work. We use aggregate analytics about traffic and usage and do not use this data to make decisions about your legal matter.

5. How long we keep your information

We retain your information for as long as your account is active and as long as we need it to provide the service, comply with our legal and professional record-keeping obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Matter files connected to attorney work are retained in line with North Carolina attorney record-retention requirements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.

6. How we protect your information

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards — including encryption in transit and access controls — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to limit access to those who need it to do their work.

7. Your rights and choices

  • You can access, correct, or update the information in your account at any time.
  • You can request a copy of your information or ask us to delete it, subject to our legal and professional retention obligations.
  • You can opt out of marketing messages using the unsubscribe link or by replying STOP to texts; we will still send essential service messages about your matter.
  • You can close your free account by contacting us.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@lawpassport.com.

8. Children

LawPassport is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to notify you.
